-- Edit is DeadDigital Media Net has obtained a letter from Discreet, Inc. informing its resellers that its nonlinear editing software, Edit 6.5, will no longer be sold as of June 30th of this year. In the letter, Paul Lypaczewski, General Manager of Discreet says although the application is to be discontinued, the company will continue to support all versions of Edit through August 31, 2003. The complete text of the letter is quoted verbatim below:

"Dear edit Reseller,

We are writing to inform you that, regretfully, Discreet will be discontinuing the edit NT-based nonlinear editing system effective June 30, 2002.

This is one of the most difficult decisions in Discreet history. Our decision to discontinue edit was reached only after considering a number of options and factors, particularly the investment that our Resellers and customers have made in their edit systems, and the commitment to Discreet that this represents. This was balanced with the challenge of providing customers with a competitively featured and priced solution, in the face of increasing market polarization in the editing market. The conclusion, from our evaluation, was to discontinue the product.

As our partner, you have been true ambassadors and evangelists of this product, and we recognize the levels of concern and disappointment that may result from our action. Please understand that we are committed to providing you with the information and guidance you may require. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss any outstanding issues, feel free to contact your local Discreet Sales management.

Managed through your geographic sales headquarters, Discreet will be mailing End Of Life notifications to your respective customers. A copy of the letter is attached for your reference. This End of Life action for edit does not affect other Discreet products and/or services unless stipulated in other corporate product notifications. The following information addresses important issues relating to the discontinuation of edit:

The final release, edit 6.5, was released in January 2002, and there will be no further feature releases. The following edit software and associated configurations are subject to this End of Life notification:

edit : all configurations (Matrox, Pinnacle/TARGA) edit plus : all configurations (Matrox, Pinnacle/TARGA)

Discreet will continue to accept purchase orders from Discreet Authorized Resellers through June 30, 2002. Moreover, Discreet will continue to provide second line support of the edit systems up through August 31, 2003.

Please do not hesitate to contact your local Discreet sales representative for further information, or special migration promotions to other Discreet products. We wish to thank you for your efforts with Discreet, and hope to have the opportunity to work with you in the future.Sincerely,

Paul Lypaczewski
General Manager of Discreet, Executive Vice President Autodesk, Inc. "
