NEW YORK, NEW YORK (Oct. 10, 2002) -- On the heels of ZONA Design's recent work for two Bravo (Jericho, NY) series - Deadline and Music Behind the Scenes - the network returned to the motion design and branding studio for an identity, program and promotion package - including a :10 open - for the 12th Annual IFP (Independent Feature Project NY) 2002 Gotham Awards, which aired on Bravo Sunday, September 29th. The ZONA design will be customized to package Bravo's sister network's, the IFC (Independent Film Channel), presentation of the 2002 New York Film Festivals program, which will air in October.

Bravo challenged ZONA to capture the attitude, the energy of The Big Apple for the awards tribute which celebrates outstanding achievement in filmmaking and the spirit of New York and this year honored Director Ang Lee, United Artists studio president Bingham Ray and actress Julianne Moore. "We wanted to get into the mindset of the filmmaker as he or she races through the city and integrate the unique energy that is New York with elements that are part of our daily urban existence, while avoiding the cliché," explained Martinez. "We New Yorkers are always on the run and so we shot weaving through people, taxis, dogs, pigeons - all in motion - and juxtaposed this footage with images of grand edifices like the Flat Iron building, the city's industrial infrastructure, bold splashes of graffiti, the waterfront, a manhole cover, a hydrant - images that seep into our collective unconscious as we schlep the city streets each day."

"ZONA Design had a history with our creative services group and they came very highly recommended for both their intimate knowledge of our brand and turning around great creative work, quickly. Since the tragedy of 9/11, New York has been covered, over saturated," stated Bravo Director Production/Packaging Christian Barcellos. ZONA was further challenged to integrate elements and a color palate which the IFP had created into their package. So how do you do an awards show which celebrates NY without falling prey to every single cliché and capture the artistic spirit, the fun, the very essence of the city which inspires the creative filmmakers and artists who live and work here? "Zoa and her team did a tremendous job and created an edgy package that was vibrant, fun, and looked at NY from a very fresh place. The icons are there but to the edge of the screen or in the background. It is not the first thing that captures your attention. It was particularly important for this package because, oddly enough, the Gotham Awards is the only NY-based film award event," continued Barcellos.

In addition to Creative Director Zoa Martinez, ZONA's seasoned team, known for their distinctive and effective designs, included Executive Producer Dennis Fluet; Associate Creative Director/Designer Curt Neumann; Designer Jane Holland; and Composite Artists Andre Sam and Fabien Leone.

For ZONA, Zoa Martinez, Jane Holland and Mark Holland filmed the live-action elements on the streets of New York City and utilized ADOBE AfterEffects, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightwave 3D in the execution of this project.

Bravo was represented by Director Production/Packaging Christian Barcellos and Manager Networks Packaging Christine Lubrano.

All postproduction for this program and promotion package was completed in-house at Bravo. The underscore was pulled from the Bravo Music Library.
