![]() NAB Diary: Day 0 Page 2 of 4 Adobe I really hope I will get to see an early version of the next After Effects at the show, although I doubt I’ll be able to rejoice about or tell you the reader about this product until later in the year. NDAs are a real bummer sometimes. But rest assured when that date comes (possibly mid to late summer?) I’ll be more than ready to share the good word. [an error occurred while processing this directive]If I could dream about the features in the newest release? I would have to say capturing video directly in the application would be at the top of my list. Also advances in speed are going to become critical, as well as the ability to handle larger than 2K files. The ability to transfer/import 3D application data would also be a major improvement. (I’m told Chris Meyer has a large section of his new AE book that covers importing/exporting data from many of the major 3D app.) Premiere will also be a topic covered in my meeting with Adobe. One of the biggest questions will be “How will Premiere compete with the likes of Final Cut Express, and the soon to be released Avid DV Free?” Both of those apps are super inexpensive, and appear to be ready to cut into Premiere’s market share. I have no idea what the answer will be, but I’m sure it will start with “Here, let me show you…” Following that razzle dazzle, I’ll try to take a peak at their latest DVD authoring system that was announced last week. The first version will only be Windows based, but if it integrates as well with the other Adobe products as claimed, then a port to the Mac could be in the next release. Apple v. Adobe Underground rumblings between the companies? I’m sure Adobe wouldn’t turn their backs on the Mac-nation and only support PCs, but word through the grapevine has it that Adobe won’t be using Macs as display systems in their theatre and are only making an exception for one show demonstrator who “would be fumbling around a Windows machine…” My hope is that Adobe realizes the importance of their Mac-nation supporters and is only currently focusing on the PC market to capture a larger share of that potential audience.
