![]() NAB Diary: Day 0 Page 3 of 4 Avid Which brings me to the 800lb gorilla. A long established company that over the years has become deeply entrenched in many post houses, will undoubtedly be eager to discuss the free release version of their software (Why not capture them young?).[an error occurred while processing this directive]Even though Apple has been slowly chipping away and working into the film industry, Avid will no doubt showcase many of the latest HD and film works edited on their systems. Panasonic Remember a few years ago when you had to stand 10 people deep at the Canon booth just to catch a glimpse of the new XL-1? Even though the camera was announced and shown at last year’s conventions, I have a feeling that will be the scene at Panasonic’s Pavilion as people clamor to get their hands on the AG-DVX100. What a sweet unit! The improvements in 24p technology as well as video displays will also be hot items of discussion. Speaking of Canon, what’s up with them? Last time I went to a convention, their booth was nearly deserted. I hope they are going to roll out something more impressive than the XL-1s. A major improvement, and one that has kept me away from the smart looking cameras is the lack of “professional” XLR connections for audio. We’ll see… NewTek NewTek will be showing off the Video Toaster 3.0. I’ve always had a soft spot in my bitter and evil heart for the Toaster. It was my first introduction to video and animation way back in 1990. I was wowed when NewTek demonstrated VT2.0, and I’m sure I’ll have the same results when I see 3.0. Improvements to the way VT3 handles DV sources will be something that I will be looking at closely. Because of the market the Toaster attracts, proper communication with the DV format is vital. I’ll also try to get Chuck Baker to give me some insight as to what can/might be expected in the next release of LightWave. Siggraph isn’t that far off is it? Source: Digital Media Online, Inc.
