![]() NAB Diary: Super Tuesday Page 3 of 5 I was also shown Panasonic’s Tough-book laptop. This laptop can withstand nearly anything you throw at it. In tests, this portable computer was submerged in tanks of water, and even thrown out of a moving car at 40mph just to make sure it could handle tough editing conditions. While I was not totally impressed with Panasonic’s editing system for cutting news, the Tough-book (retailing at $4000) also has a touch panel screen so you could interactively edit your content. That along makes this a wow product. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
I also asked Panasonic about the DALSA 4K camera that was unveiled yesterday. I got the typical company response (paraphrasing), “While we applaud what DALSA has done, they are really going after a niche market of only a few rental houses in the country and only a select group of people who would be using such technology. While it is interesting technology it isn’t practical. Our line of cameras are much more cost effective and deliver as good or better results (based on the camera that was unveiled).” I wonder if that will be the company line next year after they have purchased the technology from DALSA or begun production of their own unit.
