NAB Diary: Super Tuesday

My next meeting was with Adobe, to look at the new Encore DVD software. For a version 1 release, this product will surely sweep the marketplace. Unfortunately, it is only available on the PC. There was no word on future releases of the software that would include the Mac-nation. Why isn’t Adobe offering this on the Mac platform? I feel there is a black cloud on the horizon if this issue isn’t resolved as it could affect future releases of other applications.

Speaking of other Adobe applications, the official party line on the latest version of Premiere is “We don’t discuss new or future versions of our software.” This even after they demonstrated a “product that may or may not be a new version of Premiere, that may or may not be released at a future date” at the Adobe Super Session that reporter Charlie White attended on Monday.[an error occurred while processing this directive]I didn’t even want to ask about a new version of After Effects, but I did ask about how the new version of Premiere “that may or may not be a new version, that may or may not be released at a future date” would be priced to compete with Final Cut Pro and the free version of the Avid NLE software. The response again was, “We don’t discuss pricing for future releases of software”. Hey, I had to ask…

I was impressed with the Encore DVD software. It is a wow product that PC users will really go after.

Canon was showing a lens attachment that gives you the look of film without having to pay alot of money for a new camera. Very impressive results.

The complete Canon XL-1s film package will run you around $10,000. However, the extended viewfinder sucks.
