AE6 Overview: Convert Audio to Keyframes

You don’t have to use this CAK technique only on the Scale property. You can also use this approach to any layer property. Because South Park Stephen gets lonely, I also created a South Park Chada to keep him occupied.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]The mouth for this female character was designed a little differently in that the lower lip was a separate layer. For her animation I wanted the lower lip to move up and down. Applying the following expression for her CAK on the Position layer yields desired results.

[position[0], thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“slider”)+position[1]]

Expressions can be linked to any layer property. In this case the Audio Amplitude is linked to the Position Y-axis of the lower lip.

Convert Audio to Keyframes is a much-needed replacement to Motion Math and has potential far beyond the example here. Play around with this new After Effects 6.0 feature and see what you can come up with.

Just another day in the life of Chada and Stephen.
