![]() Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro Suite Page 3 of 3 One impression that you won’t get from reading brochures and watching demos of this system is the way it feels to use it. I am even more impressed with the responsiveness of the system than I was the first time I used the RT.X100 18 months ago. The thing just slings around DV footage like it’s child’s play. There are no waits for anything to ramp up – this is truly real time. And, our test machine – provided as a turnkey system by Matrox – wasn’t exactly the fastest box available, either. On this P4 2.4GHz machine with just 512MB of RAM, Premiere Pro feels sprightly, even with five layers stacked up. So, if you’re looking to buy a system like this, I would first recommend that you sit down with someone who can competently walk you through it, and feel for yourself the responsiveness of it. You’ll like it. Second, I’d say get a host computer that’s on Matrox’s approved list and has as much power as you can get your hands on. A 2.4GHz P4 with 512MB of RAM would be a bare minimum. Summing up, I like the clean, crisp effects that Matrox extracts from its hardware, and I like the price of this system. The Xtreme previewing features are a big plus, and the ability to use Adobe’s excellent new Premiere Pro software is a huge advantage. Matrox has put together a first-rate package that works with one of the best nonlinear editing software applications available, and I’d say if you like Premiere Pro, you’re really going to like the RT.X100 Xtreme Pro. Highly recommended.
