![]() Part 2: Pinnacle Liquid Edition's Color Correction Tool Page 2 of 4 Sometimes you want to correct a clip that is out of character with the rest of your timeline. Perhaps the white balance or tonal qualities of one shot are out of step with the others. Setting a reference clip in Liquid Edition is just a right-click away.
A reference clip is simply a clip whose color qualities you want to emulate and refer to while you’re correcting another shot. Once you’re in the CX Color Correction tool, you can right click on any clip in the timeline and choose it as your reference clip (see graphic above). Now, in addition to the different views, you can select while viewing the reference clip. [an error occurred while processing this directive] Three is better than one: Once you have your reference shots there are several things you can do to match the clips. First and foremost there is a three point color balance. When you click on this tool in the right hand tool palette it brings up a three points connected by lines in both the clip you’re modifying and your reference clip. They are colored white, gray and black and each side corresponds to the other. In other words, the white point in the reference clip side will affect the color of the white point in your right side. It sounds complicated, but believe me, two minutes and you’re going to town on your timeline! ![]() From there you take each point and drag it to a specific color. For example, in the graphic above, I might pick a white, blue and black. Once I’ve matched the points with the colors I want from my reference clip, I right-click on the reference side to make the adjustments. This tool is a winner for matching different shots, compensate for different lighting or two different cameras shooting the same scene. This is a major feature that users will tap into often. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom Besides my penchant for crazy subheads to an article, the zoom tool in Liquid Edition is one of those little gems that are overlooked because it is so simple you use it all the time without thinking twice. It’s useful for both the reference clip and the clip you’re modifying. ![]() You can use the zoom tool in conjunction with many others within Liquid Edition to make all of your adjustments more precise. When doing 3-point color balance or using other color matching tools, the zoom tool proves especially invaluable. With 4 variable zoom sizes you can get a real “up close” look for matching your shots or color picking. Prev 1 2 3 4 Next [an error occurred while processing this directive] |
