Real Time Editing Platform Provides Native DV, DV50, and MPEG-2 Multi-Format Editing With 1394 and SDI/SDTI Interface Options

IBC '99 - AMSTERDAM -- Matrox Video Products Group announced that it has begun shipping Matrox DigiSuite DTV, a new real time editing platform for digital television.  Based on the award-winning Matrox DigiSuite real time mix/effects technology, DigiSuite DTV offers the most advanced feature set on the Windows NT platform and incorporates the complete range of compression formats, audio and video I/O, and connectivity interfaces that are important for digital television.  The product will be shown at IBC '99 running Adobe Premiere RT and in-sync Speed Razor RT real time editing applications, Sonic Solutions DVDit! LE DVD authoring software, as well as leading compositing, paint, 3D animation, CG and effects packages.

"The new DigiSuite DTV card will ensure that we maintain our position as the premiere supplier of real time editing platforms to broadcasters, post-production facilities, and project studios," said Spiro Plagakis, Matrox VP Sales and Marketing. "This card will allow our customers to take advantage of cost-effective PC-based technologies as they move toward digital television formats and interconnect interfaces."

DigiSuite DTV supports multi-format DV, DV50, and variable bit rate MPEG-2 4:2:2 I-frame editing. It also provides MPEG-2 4:2:2P@ML and MPEG-2 MP@ML output for distribution applications such as broadcast transmission, video server storage, archiving, DVD authoring, and web video streaming.   A full range of I/O and interconnect interfaces are supported in a modular architecture so users can configure a system to exactly meet their needs. Both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios are supported.  Composite, Y/C, and analog component video I/O are standard along with four channels of balanced/unbalanced analog audio I/O.   An optional 1394 interface card provides an IEEE-1394 link and an ultra-wide SCSI controller. An optional SDI video interface module includes AES/EBU digital audio I/O.  An optional SDI/SDTI interface card with eight embedded audio I/O channels supports faster than real time digital transfers of compressed video.  An optional real time 3D DVE card is also available.

"We are very happy to see Matrox announce an open-architecture real time editing platform that leverages our DVCPRO and DVCPRO 50 technology and provides SDTI interconnectivity," said Michael Brinkman, Director of Strategic Business Development, Panasonic Broadcast & Digital Systems Company.  "Editing and transferring DV material in its native format ensures optimum quality, and the ability to transfer digital video at 4X real time provides an important productivity boost to users."

"Combining DigiSuite DTV with Adobe Premiere RT makes an extraordinary desktop system," said David Trescot, Group Product Manager, Dynamic Media, Adobe Systems Incorporated. "The ability of DigiSuite DTV to edit two streams of DV, DV50 and MPEG-2 I-frame video in real time and output not only to tape, but directly to DVD, broadcast video servers, and the web, brings a whole new level of functionality and exciting new possibilities to video professionals."

"Following the successful introduction of Speed Razor RT with the Matrox DigiSuite and DigiSuite LE, in-sync is proud to announce support for the new DigiSuite DTV board from Matrox. The Speed Razor RT/DTV combination offers editors the latest in DV equipment and output to the world's fastest growing video format - MPEG-2 - compatible with satellite and DVD distribution," said Jamie Carr, CEO of in-sync corporation.
