ATTO Boosts Post Production Efficiency With 4-Gigabit Fibre Technology powers latest advances in HDTV, audio, video, graphics & animation (April 15, 2005)

ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, is powering 4-Gigabit Fibre Channel (4-Gb) solutions to meet the critical needs of post-production facilities. With ATTO 4-Gb Fibre Channel storage adapters and bridges, content creation markets are experiencing more efficient workflow, complete data protection, and a higher-quality result for clients, while enjoying an easily implemented and cost-effective system.

As the media industry rapidly migrates to all-digital processes and becomes more data-driven, the need for increased bandwidth providing higher throughput has become critical. Companies can achieve greater productivity and more timely delivery of higher-quality projects utilizing 4-Gb Fibre Channel technology to manage multiple projects with effective dataflow.

Two New York City-based shops, Frame:Runner and PostWorks, recently integrated 4-Gb Fibre Channel into their storage networks by working with ATTO partner Facilis Technology. Both shops chose the Celerity FC-42XS and FC-41XS storage adapters to boost production while ensuring backward compatibility with existing storage infrastructure.

PostWorks, a full-service high-definition post-production facility specializing in HD conforming and mastering, has upgraded to 4-Gb Fibre Channel to help them master 10-bit high definition.

?The 4-gig Celerity has really given us the opportunity to change the way we work for the better, increase our timeline efficiency, and give our clients higher quality products while keeping a protected, shared file system,? said Matthew Schneider, director of technology at Post Works.

Frame:Runner is a nearly 20 year-old post facility that specializes in promotion, show conforming and color correction work. A recent surge in high definition jobs propelled the shop to upgrade to 4-Gb Fibre Channel.

?We saw four-gig as a way of grouping our technology for the future and making sure that we?re always at the cutting edge of what we do,? said Evan Anthony, senior editor/colorist at Frame:Runner. ?As a result of these technologies, our workflow has tremendously improved.?

New products such as the quad channel Celerity FC-44ES storage adapter take advantage of the latest in host interconnect technology with PCI Express, a serial, high-speed connection that supports aggregate throughput up to 3.2 GB/second (x8 PCIe). Since PCI Express host adapters move data more efficiently than other host adapters, the FC-44ES provides a valuable advantage in data intensive environments such as HDTV. The FC-44ES also features the exclusive Advanced Data Streaming (ADS) technology for controlled acceleration of data transfers. ADS technology enables users to achieve the ultimate in I/O performance for workgroup applications.

?We're excited to be offering this advanced technology to our customers who want to future-proof their facility and make use of the fastest fibre protocol for HD and high bandwidth video capture and playback,? said James McKenna, vice president of sales and marketing at Facilis.

Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
