CyberLink PowerDirector 4 Version 4 adds Magic Tools, PhotoNow, and more transitions and effects

Magic Tools
The Magic Tools is what makes PowerDirector 4 different from the rest of the video editing applications in this space. While not revolutionary, the Magic Tools enable you to quickly create some interesting videos. There are four Magic Tools: Magic Clean, Magic Motion, Magic Cut, and Magic Music.

Magic Clean

Magic Clean automatically cleans up your audio and video and attempts to enhance it. You can choose to clean both the audio and video at the same time or clean one or the other. Magic Clean adjusts the brightness, contrast, saturation ratios where needed, mitigating the practice of changing color settings over an entire clip when only portions of the clip need adjustment. With regard to audio, you can choose to remove audio noise by filtering out machinery noise or wind noise. There is a slider that enables you to remove less or more noise.

Magic Motion

Magic Motion enables you to zoom and pan any still images that you may have added to your project. You can set the focus yourself or Magic Motion can set it for you. In addition, you can have Magic Motion apply the effect to all the adjacent photos that you've placed in your project.

Magic Cut

Magic Cut enables you to trim your video clips to a specified time of your choosing. This feature is best used when you have clips of longer duration that have been previously unedited. What you do is enter a duration that you choose and the software attempts to trim out the portion of the clip that it deems as less important. You specify what you wish to keep via the sliders. These sliders, Scene with zoom/pan/motion, Scenes with people speaking, enable you to determine the importance. Less important you slide to the left and more important you slide to the right. The Magic Cut software then determines what to cut based on the position of those sliders.

Magic Music is based on SmartSound technology.

Magic Music let's you add prebuilt soundtracks to your projects. This enables you to select a music track from a variety of music styles and place them directly into your project. You can choose from the following styles; Blues, Classical, Comedy/kids, country/folk, fusion, futuristic, holiday, jazz,  Latin, March./patriotic, New Age/Easy, orchestral, period, pop/dance, production elements, R&B/Funk, Rap/Hip hop, Rock, Techno/Dance, and World. to preview the audio clips, simply click on them and they will play in the preview window.

Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
