CyberLink PowerDirector 4 Version 4 adds Magic Tools, PhotoNow, and more transitions and effects

Still Image Manipulation
When you place a still image on the Timeline or Storyboard, four editing buttons appear next to the Magic Tools buttons. These buttons, PhotoNow, Color, Duration, and Delete enable you to do the following: PhotoNow  is a new tool in PowerDirector. It is an image editor that enables you to make adjustments to your still images. Three AutoFix tools are available that enable you to auto adjust brightness, contrast, and color balance. You can view the changes versus the original image, view just the new image or just the original.

PhotoNow is built into PowerDirector 4 so you don't have to launch a dedicated image editor to adjust an image.

In addition, across the top of the PhotoNow window resides more tool icons, which include the just mentioned autofix tools, manual fix, which enables you to manually adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, and sharpness; a rotate tool for rotating images; a crop tool for cropping out unneeded aspects of an image; redeye removal tool; a special effects tool that offers filters for creating images with mosaics, pencil sketch, spotlight, mosaic, monochrome tint, and blur.

Monochrome tint adds a classic look.

All these filters can also be adjusted for intensity via a slider; a resize tool that enables you to resize an image by percentage or pixel by pixel; and a Zoom tool for zooming in and out of an image. After you are finished editing your image in PhotoNow, when you close the application, the PowerDirector window reappears.

Color enables you to adjust your video's brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, and sharpness. These are adjusted via sliders, and as you move the sliders, a preview of the adjustment is shown in real time on the image in the preview window, so you could tweak your video or image on the Timeline and see what the changes will do to the video/image before you commit to the change. When a video is highlighted on the Timeline, other buttons appear next to the Magic Tools. These include a trim tool, multi trim tool, and speed, which stretches or mutes the audio and changes the video length.

Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
